To efficiently document which steps have been executed in an experiment, you can insert a protocol or procedure template from eLabProtocols into the ELN by adding a new experiment section and choosing Procedure template.



The next step will list all procedures - personal, shared, public - that are accessible to your account.




Click on the procedure template you want to execute to open it. If you selected a protocol that contains dynamic fields, you can set the values of those fields here to configure your protocol. Click Insert Procedure Template to add it to the digital lab notebook.




After adding a procedure in the ELN, a link to the version of the protocol template used is displayed in the footer.




Any changes made to the inserted protocol will only apply to that section of the current experiment. To edit the protocol, you can either open the protocol in the text editor by clicking the Edit icon, or you can Restart the protocol to reset the values of your dynamic fields. Note: any made changes to the protocol section do not affect the original protocol template stored in eLabProtocols. 





Restart Procedure Section 


In case you want to change the variables in a protocol after inserting it into a procedure section, you can Restart the procedure.  Click Restart in the action menu of the inserted procedure section. The protocol template will be reopened to allow the user to reset the variables in dynamic fields.
